While the unnecessary furore surrounding PlayStation 4 to PS5 save transfers appears to be improving – recent upgrades like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Wreckfest now allow you to import your last-gen save file with minimum fuss – DOOM Eternal hasn’t bothered incorporating the feature at all. It means that if you’re planning to play the next-gen version which released this week, then you’re going to have to start over.
Conspiracy theorists will perhaps point to the Bethesda buyout, but it’s worth remembering that Sony hasn’t made this easy for developers. Things are beginning to get better, but previously teams like Insomniac Games and Square Enix had to code cloud-based systems into their free PS4 to PS5 upgrades in order to enable fans to transfer their progress across. Most, to be fair, did invest the extra effort – but it seems id Software didn’t want to go the extra mile.
It’s possible it could patch the feature in at a later date – that’s what Wreckfest has done – but for now, you’re going to be starting over. It is what it is.

Glad i haven't started this yet in that case. Will start a fresh with the PS5 version
In my mind this only looks bad on ID/Bethesda.. it can be done and these days it can be seamless for end user.. therefore you do it, and keep the consistent quality bubble alive.
@uptownsoul Yup.
"Plays better on Xbox" how prophetic of them /s
Honestly considering other games from smaller studios are making this work now, this can only be a lack of willingness on the devs part.
Hopefully will be fixed soon.
@uptownsoul
Surely if MS was so petty they wouldn't even let there be a PS5 version?
This absolutely should not be on the developers to spend development time and resources on jerry-rigged solutions for problems caused by Sony’s infrastructure shortcomings. Sony needs to realize that Sony’s only selling point can’t just be a handful of decent exclusives per generation. They’re going to continue to lose ground.
Offtop.
Has anyone beat this game on hardcore or nightmare?
I switched to 100% console gaming a few years already, but still don't understand how such hardcore shooters can be beaten on higher difficulties using controller..
Lucky that I haven't starting this yet on my 5.
@Blacksmith1985 that's actually a great talking point!
So, I'm a huge DOOM fan and I've watched almost all the streams the director (Hugo Martin, one of the most precious being on this planet) did of the game, and he is adamant that the game was always meant to be beaten with a standard controller, which is why he plays on Nightmare on a standard XBox controller with the X-axis inverted.
As for me, I got a PC a year and a half ago so I'm new to PC gaming; in any case, I've never used M+KB and can't learn it for the life of me, so I'm the one peasant who plays FPS games on PC with a gyro-enabled controller lol 😂
The gyro certainly helps with smaller adjustments, but I gotta say that even without it, the game is doable.
I mean I'm not a super hardcore gamer, I'm usually not really good at games, but even I managed to overcome a lot of levels on Nightmare, some Master Levels and even the DLC.
If you take some time to understand the game and get better, you'll get there and have a freaking awesome time in the process.
I know that I've spent months playing only that, and it was amazing.
Also, there's an awesome community online and a load of Doomtubers explaining techs, strategies etc, so check them out if you're curious!
Have a great day!
Luckily I haven't started it yet and can start fresh on PS5!
I can also only start it when not connected to the internet
Wish I had upgraded now!! This is just silly
@clvr thanks a lot, man. You've encouraged me.
I'll try to grab myself some Doom eternal on the nearest sale.
I need to shout this! ARE WE EVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO SAVE OUR PS5 GAME SAVES TO USB STICK SONY?!?! :-/ I can't understand why we can't for?!?! I am worried in the future that I might lose all my PS5 game saves if I can't back them up??? It's just MADNESS really (and NO I don't want to use PS PLUS to back them up because I don't always have PS PLUS)
@Blacksmith1985 I haven't done it personally (not into self flagellation) but I have watched a few streams of people doing it. There's a real balletic rhythm to the combat loop. Although it is non-stop and fast paced there is a little room to breathe alternating the chainsaw, flamethrower and of course glory kills each offer brief respite.
Similarly to @clvr on fast games like this I can't get on with K&M, or more specifically Keyboard. I grew up playing PC but the hand cramping WASD claw, plus stretching for other keys is just uncomfortable by comparison. Mouse i'm all aboard with the precision, and keyboard is OK for slower games but not this. But ultimately it's what you are used to.
@clvr I grew up gaming in the 80's and 90's w/ mouse & keyboard but I stopped doing it around 1997 when I got a PS1 and FF7 and now I can't go back. I have Gamepass on PC that I use w/ my PS5 controller b/c I don't have a PS5 but I don't play FPS. Never really have. not since the 90's. Means I miss out on a lot of cool games I know, but my backlog is overloaded the way it is. Now you've got me wondering if controller vs kb+m may be a factor? I've always thought I just don't like them. Well not since early Duke Nukem and Serious Sam anyway, those were cool, Unreal and Quake killed the genre for me, too brown. Would have liked to try to play Cyberpunk but oh well.
I do like FP in PSVR, but I don't consider that gaming, it's an experience in exploration for 20 minutes at a time. No way I could keep that up for 3 or 4 hours a night. bleeck
Saints Row the Third’s PS5 version can read the PS4’s saves just fine.
If THEY can do it…anyone can.
@rjejr I don't know man, KB+M might actually be part of the reason!
I kinda did the opposite to you, in the sense that growing up on Nintendo consoles I didn't really try them out and thought they were stupid, then I started branching out a bit on my PS3 and the first games I tried were the three Bioshock games (which I'm replaying at the moment on Switch, coincidentally; boy do I love this series lol), which drew me in thanks to their settings compared to the more boring COD etc..
I didn't expect it but I was thoroughly hooked, and now FPS games are among my absolute favorites even though I cannot use KB+M lol
So my advice would be to find the FPS that looks the most interesting to you, try it out and then see if it's worth it to you; if it is, you'll no doubt adapt to the dual stick control scheme.
If you want advice for your entry FPS, by all means tell me and I'd be glad to help you find it 😃
@Blacksmith1985 you're super welcome mate!
Every person I manage to "convert" to DOOM is a win in my book 😄
By all means, let me know if you enjoy it!
@clvr I did try to muddle through Bioshock 1 and 3, skipped 2, but they just don't work for me. Really I can't play anything w/o a good double jump button, which is probably why PS2 is my all time favorite console w/ Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper and R&C. And why Heroes on the Move sucked, 3 of the greatest platform mascots ever, and no jump button. Fire all of those devs. Uncharted and the new Tomb Raider trilogy are my thing. Though I do like a good JRPG, but that's all about the story, not the jumping. I may play Cyberpunk some day. When it works.
@Carl-G Thats a big issue for me to i lost my saves on PS4 when it broke i now backup on external HDD every month.
@rjejr ahahahah that's quite a peculiar stance, but I guess I get where you're coming from ahahahah 😄
I also really like 3D platformers and curse the day the industry collectively decided to move past them, but hey we're seeing some kind of resurgence these laste few years, so fingers crossed for the future.
That said, I get the mobility angle because I didn't really fall in love with FPS games until I started playing so-called "boomer shooters" and wondering to myself why they don't make them anymore. Again.
And again these last few years a lot of indies started pumping out retro-inspired FPS games following the release of DOOM 2016, and now mobility and fast paced action are coming back to FPS games, after 10+ years of cowering behind cover waiting for the strawberry jam to slowly drip away from the borders of the screen.
So yeah, I'm not sure if that can help, maybe FPS games are just not your cup of tea 😃
I for one don't really like Uncharted-style games, but I get why they're good at what they do, they're just not for me 😃
TL;DR: try DOOM 2016 and/or Eternal, those do in fact have a double jump!
Lol 😆
Unlocked cosmetics are still unlocked in the PS5 version...
Not an issue for me since I haven't even bought the game yet, waiting for a $20 sale.
Hopefully that happens this Holiday season.
@BrotherFilmriss Aren't they tied to Bethesda account?
Obiously. Strangely enough the player level seems not to be stored in that profile. I don't mind the whole save transfer thing that much as it gives me enough incentive to play the campaign again.
